Darlene Johnson Barnaby

Darlene says Soul Line Dancing is an excellent way to keep physically and mentally active. A graduate of Canarsie High School, she has been teaching beginners through advance urban line dance classes in the Brooklyn area for seven years. She started Brooklyn Groovers five years ago. When Darlene is not dancing, she creates and sells her handcrafted crochet fashions. Check out Darlene’s class schedule.

I always enjoyed some form of dancing. A friend told me about a line dance class seven years ago. I’ve been line dancing ever since. I really like that fact that line dancing has given me the opportunity to form many friendships across the country. The real benefit of line dancing for me is that I’m exercising my body as well as my mind. Every time I visit my doctor, he asks, “are you still dancing?” My response is yes. He says, “yes, keep it up!!”

When I first started Line Dance I was a hot mess. One thing I can say, she never gave up on me,..and that was four and a half years ago. Miss Darlene is a lovely person that has lots of patient. If she felt anyway on any day and never stop her from teaching us. She’s a lovely person and we all love her & appreciate her what she do teaching line dance.
